Arizona Political Watch
(APW)
began publication as a traditional cut & paste, fold and mail, newsletter
in June of 1988. The publication schedule was monthly - although at times
additional, special releases occurred when deemed appropriate. This was
due in part to the size limitation imposed by utilizing the U.S. Mail service
for delivery - a mere four pages.
In 1992 APW was retired and remained dormant until the end of the year 2000. During this time frame, effort was spent in developing the low-power FM broadcasting movement, which has recently been legally recognized by the Federal Communications Commission. The unprecedented coup d’etat of the 2000 Presidential election, coupled with the loss of a free press to the hydra of a corporate controlled reich-wing media, left a crying need for free, independent voices. APW was reborn in December, 2000. However, the changes in technology, i.e. the internet and the promulgation of user-friendly graphics and publishing software, would allow APW much more room for growth and quality of stories. Originally composed on tedious word processing equipment, APW is now created using Adobe InDesign and distilled into an Adobe PDF file. Adobe PDF files are universal and can be read on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. The recent addition of using WinZip to distribute the publication solved a long standing problem of transmitting to web based (as opposed to Pop 3) e-mail accounts. As an e-mail publication, there is no requirement for the subscriber to visit a website to receive the latest edition. It is delivered by automatically to all subscribers. Design is much more efficient and visually appealing. Graphics can be easily included. Editing and last minute changes are no problem. The electronic distribution via e-mail means there are no production costs plus there are no significant size constraints on the publication. The most significant of the above advances is that APW is truly a free press publication. It is in no way dependant upon financial contributions from anyone. Publication costs simply do not exist. Hence there can be no covert or overt control over the content. |

bills itself as the “Digital
Newsletter Dedicated to Free Speech and the First Amendment.”
Certainly at no other time in this nation’s history have the people been without
any voice. Virtually all forms of the media, either print or broadcast, have
largely been subverted to the emerging Rethuglican-Corporate State. Even the
remaining few pseudo “leftist” publications are still beholden to advertiser’s
influence and hence many significant stories will go unreported. The media focuses on trivia and pulp, and for good reason. If the people ever really found out what is going on in this country there would be another Revolution that would make the First pale by comparison. Hence the mainstream media inundates the reader/viewer with fodder and fluff. The real news lies dormant. |

A shining example is the
current Bush junta. This power cabal stands as the most venal and
corrupt in the nation’s history. Spawned through a stolen election,
the Bush machine has embarked on an unprecedented rollback and gutting
of all governmental programs designed to lift the standard of living
for all middle class and poor Americans. The compliant, reich-wing
media no longer reports on news, but acts as a shilling propaganda
mouthpiece that wants everyone to forget our government has been corrupted
and stolen. The Standard Operating Procedure for the media is to simply
look the other way so business can move on as usual. Progressive Links:
